I define myself starting with my needs. What do I need? In order to… I define myself starting with my choices. Which of them are truly my own? In order to… I find the meaning in my life to be missing. I am shaped by the global market to produce in order to consume. And then, after I’ve produced enough and drained the self I’m searching for, I consume again just to be able to lift my body. Every day, my body carries the weight of my needs. The weight lies in my solar plexus. To meet all these imposed needs, I don’t have time to be free. For a better life, I fill the void by tapping my card on the machine. I’m not enough; space and time are constantly shrinking around me. A body that’s forced to try to fit in. A stuck, disconnected, fragmented body. To exist, I must show that I exist, and others must accept my existence. This performance as a part of my artistic research, is an experiment that uses embodiment as research tool to investigate the experience of a hyper-modern self entrapment feeling. Young adults are forced to fit in the social norms and musts of an individualistic, money and consuming oriented life, in a rapidly and continuously changing technological world. Throughout social media/influencers and overt advertising, over-productivity culture and fear of failure sometimes I tend to think “There is nothing I can do”. How our bodies experience this entrapment shaped by social comformity, social roles, the market and the fake needs that promises a better life?
