In rural contexts, silence flattens expression and ensures uniformity, but uncontrolled noise shakes the unspoken and potentially destroys that silence.
This piece is a physical act that explores the continuous shift from being an insider to being an outsider. This is a wandering attempt to analyse subordination, choosing to stay in an in-between state in search of noise through resistance and endurance.
Grounded on the author’s broad research on queerness and rurality, this performance traces back to the upbringing of the artist as a faggot and queer on his family farm in Central Italy. The work is based on performance research shifting back and forth between what must not be seen and what is secretly observed, silence as a form of control and subjugation, daily farming gestures, gestures alluding to fleeting curiosity, and encounter as a creation of otherness.
