Glossophoniais a two-movement piece at the intersection of music and theatre. It uses speech as its primary compositional material and explores themes of female rage, attention-seeking, anxiety, and weaponised sexuality through theatrical devices.
The first movement, ‘freeze/fry’, is a dramatic monologue for two voices. It portrays an agitated emotional landscape while exploring the musical qualities hidden in the text. The performers manipulate their voices using techniques inspired by sound processing to turn speech into a textured, expressive instrument. The second movement, She Can Talk, layers multiple voices into a dense, continuous wall of speech. Each performer seeks the audience’s attention in their own way, creating an unpredictable and evolving sound environment. Over time, this sonic structure gradually breaks apart, triggered by elements of random interactions.
After, take the Metro to Vijzelgracht to see Space Peasants Arrive and join the potluck Open Stage
